158. In the Interest of Time

In the interest of time
I'll cut right to the chase
Please don't sleep on your dreams
now's the time to make haste

Yes, each day is a stride
every year like a lap
Don't choose the final stretch
to start closing the gap

(You're not competing with others
let's get that clear from the start
But for how much you live
within the beats of your heart)

It's no fun playing catch up
to make up for lost time
Seize the day and the moment
the waste of life is a crime

My best advice then is this,
as you dash through this race:
Don't wait for the final bell
before you step up the pace!

Commentary:
The reason more people change careers and/or start their own business later in life has more to do with a sense of urgency than anything else. As years progress, many people start to evaluate their accomplishments, their sense of fulfillment and the purpose of their lives here on our little planet. And just like in a long distance race when that last bell rings signaling the final lap, many people hear their own internal bell reminding them that they'd better get going, or else. Don't wait for the last bell!
