We choose to live our lives each day
by rules that we've been taught
And put our trust in dos and don'ts
that often come to naught
It's by such rules we live life
choosing safety over sorrow
We lose control of each today
and doom each new tomorrow
New ways, new rules, new people too
are yours to pick and choose
So keep the ones that serve you well
and others you refuse
The life lived in the present
comes from choices in your past
Each moment brings the chance to make
new choices that will last
So find new words to live by
yes, new thoughts that come from you
When free to choose another view
there's no telling what you'll do!
